Overview:

As a Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare professionals in providing efficient and effective patient care. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in clinical settings such as hospitals, clinics, and medical offices. Your responsibilities will encompass administrative tasks, patient care duties, and medical procedures, all aimed at ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
    Assist in patient intake procedures, including measuring vital signs (such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse).
    Prepare patients for examinations or treatments by ensuring they are comfortable and informed about procedures.
    Aid physicians or nurses during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
    Administer medications under the direction and supervision of licensed healthcare providers.
    Provide patient education on medications, treatments, and self-care techniques.
    Perform basic wound care and dressing changes as required.
  • Administrative Duties:
    Schedule patient appointments and manage patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
    Handle phone calls, inquiries, and correspondence, directing them appropriately.
    Ensure accurate billing and coding procedures are followed for patient visits and procedures.
    Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and other clinical areas.
    Assist with inventory management, ordering medical supplies, and stocking examination rooms.
  • Medical Procedures:
    Conduct basic laboratory tests such as blood draws, urinalysis, and specimen collection.
    Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and other diagnostic tests as directed.
    Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment for procedures.
    Assist with minor surgical procedures, including prepping patients and providing post-procedure care.
    Handle and dispose of hazardous materials and biohazard waste according to established protocols.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
    Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient care.
    Participate in team meetings, continuing education opportunities, and quality improvement initiatives.

 

Responsibilities & Context:

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant training program preferred.
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Proficiency in basic clinical procedures such as taking vital signs, performing EKGs, and conducting basic laboratory tests.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
